Audio setup

Before Nota can play sound you point it at an audio device and choose a buffer size. This lives in Preferences.

Open Preferences

Open Preferences from the app menu. The audio section lets you pick:

• Output device — where sound goes (built-in output, an interface, …).
• Input device — where recording takes audio from.
• Sample rate — e.g. 44.1 or 48 kHz.
• Buffer size — smaller = lower latency but more CPU; larger = safer.

Choosing a buffer

Start at a middle buffer size. If you hear clicks/dropouts while playing, raise it. When tracking (playing an instrument live) lower it until latency feels comfortable without dropouts.
